Brazil is considered a stronghold of new exotic materials. The variety of colors and the special structures of Brazilian natural stone make it desirable. In the following, TYCOON STONE SCHMIDKE presents you with a material that has earned the designation of a super exotic material: Iron Red . Because the Iron Red rock has an above-average iron content, particularly robust machines are required to mine the 3 billion year old rock. It is extremely hard, so hard that even TYCOON STONE SCHMIDKE almost reaches its limits when making a knife block out of Iron Red! But only almost. The natural stone differs not only in its iron content and its extreme hardness, but also in the variety of colors. The dark reddish color of the Iron Red is caused by a very unstable iron sulfide, pyrite. This leads to oxidation, resulting in this wonderful color splendor in red, brown, gray and black. It is a dark red banded iron ore. Layers of dark grey magmatite ore alternate with cm wide deep red hematized layers. You have to know that 3 billion years ago, apart from cyanobacteria and early algae in the water, there was no known life on earth. There was literally "nothing" on land. So there was no oxygen either. While today iron is immediately oxidized by the oxygen present in the water, this did not exist 3 billion years ago. It was only through the photosynthesis of algae and cyanobacteria that the oxygen was dissolved and entered the sea water. This then combined with the iron and was deposited as a layer on the magmatite on the ground until there was no more oxygen in the water. This was repeated until it became a 600 m thick layer. The original iron came from the interior of the earth through volcanoes that were under "salt water". And today the quarry lies deep in the interior of Brazil, high above sea level.
